Forthcoming Events

Porthkerris Diving - 10/11th July (Account by Eric)

Thanks to Colin for organising last weekend. We had 11 divers who made 38 boat dives and about a dozen shore dives. The camaraderie and willingness to help each other never ceases to impress me on these occasions. I rely on this heavily and thank you to all those who assisted Jessica and I. Jessica had never before dived in UK waters and has only a couple in France so wetsuits, gloves, hoods and weights are fairly alien. So thanks to all those who rallied with kit and assistance and for recovering stuff she managed to leave on the beach. She was impressed with the vis and life. Who could fail to be impressed with Raglan reef which must rate as one of my favourite UK dives ever.

Highlights (No I don’t mean David’s hair!) and incidents might include:

Seal seen on a shore dive

Camp Fires

Monkfish, dog fish, wrasse, bib, Pollack, squat lobsters etc.

Carpets of Jewel anemones, plumose anemones, dead mens fingers

Sea fans

Visibility 15+ metres

Diane lying on the boat floor waiting to rescued

Simon, Eric and Clare’s torches

Paul's supply of alterative kit and repair skills

John T conversion to wet suit diving

John R attracting friends and neighbours to visit despite his hat

Jess for her first UK dive with Paul and David returning with 110 bar

Someone!! For leaving on the map reading light in my car meaning I needed a bump start yesterday

Eric for keeping almost cool when sat on the boat with a free flowing reg instead of diving

David for his magic lights and super bar b q skills

Colin and John R for "procuring" the camp fire wood

Andy for extreme family camping

Arriving to find my tent erected with a chocolate on the pillow after a long drive.

Portland Diving - 19th June (Account by Eric)

Early Saturday 6 members headed for Portland with the boat. Stories of a JCB being held up in traffic behind Paul have been much exaggerated!! We had quite rough conditions on the way out to the British Inventor where 5 divers enjoyed the pretty good vis, slack water (for some), the proliferation of marine life Bib, Pollack, Rainbow wrasse, Edible crabs, Spider crabs, Conger, Scallops which made nice sushi. Paul managed to shot the wreck perfectly.

After lunch back at Ferry bridge we headed for the calmer Countess for our afternoon dive. Here 4 divers enjoyed the very poor vis of this well dived wreck. Black headed gobbies were the star attraction along with candy stripe flatworks. Anthony and John had an opportunity to show their boat handling skills to Paul and I would imagine that soon we might have a couple more approved handlers making dive organisation even easier.
